ST. GEORGE — An elderly couple were rushed to the hospital when they were hit by a vehicle while crossing the street on 700 East in St. George Monday evening.

Just after 7 p.m., an elderly couple was struck by a vehicle as they crossed the street at the parking entrance to the Cox Performing Arts Center at Dixie State University and were taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center to be treated for their injuries, St. George Police Officer David Slack said.

A light-colored Honda driven by an elderly male was traveling southbound on 700 East and was turning left to enter the parking lot of the Cox Performing Arts Center when he struck the couple as they crossed the street at the entrance. He immediately called the police to report the accident.

Police and emergency personnel responded within minutes and began treating the couple who were conscious but injured, Slack said. The nature and extent of their injuries were unknown at this time, he said.

The driver and his wife were also attending the concert scheduled at the Cox Performing Arts Center, Slack said.  As the driver made the turn he didn’t see the couple at all, he said.

No injuries were reported by the driver or his passenger, however the driver was cited for hitting a pedestrian.

St. George Police, St. George Fire Department, and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

I made the unusual night trip to St G for the special Sherlock showing .
Between No moon , cloud cover , rain drizzle and glare on the wet streets
it was very hard to see the lines on the street or much of anything else .
I am actually surprised the news isn’t full of incident reports .
If it were not for Benedict C , I would have stayed home !
