SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed Denise Porter to the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole.
“Denise’s experience will provide a valuable addition to the Board of Pardons and Parole and our entire criminal justice system,” Herbert said. “Board members perform a vital role in improving our public safety and reducing recidivism.”
For the last 16 years, Porter has worked as an attorney with the Salt Lake Legal Defender’s Association. She served as the vice chair of the Utah State Bar Criminal Law Section and is a board member of the Utah Journal of Criminal Law and Utah’s Indigent Defense Trusts Funds.
She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Utah and received her Juris Doctorate from the S.J. Quinney College of Law.
“I am both humbled and honored by my selection to be a member of the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole,” Porter said. “I look forward to continuing to serve my community in this new role with integrity and professionalism.”
Subject to confirmation by the Utah State Senate, Porter will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Jesse Gallegos March 1, 2016.
