2 SUVs collide on Bluff Street, failure to yield

ST. GEORGE – Two SUVs collided on Bluff Street when a black Ford Explorer carrying five passengers exited Fast Freddy’s car wash at 806 N. Bluff Street and failed to yield to a black Nissan XTerra.

Around 2 p.m., St. George Police Officer David McDaniel and a Utah Highway Patrol trooper happened upon an accident on North Bluff Street south of Sunset Boulevard. Officers drove up on the accident shortly after it happened and found the Ford Explorer and Nissan Xterra in the inside, northbound lane, McDaniel said.

“This Explorer was going to make a left turn out onto Bluff Street. The Xterra was traveling in the right-of-way and the Explorer pulled out in front of it,” McDaniel said. “He (the driver of the Explorer) failed to yield and made a left turn in front of him (the driver of the Xterra.)”

Airbags were deployed on the Xterra. Seat belts were worn by everyone involved. No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and had to be towed from the scene.

The driver of the Explorer was issued a citation for failure to yield.

The St. George Police Department, Utah Highway Patrol and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the incident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
