MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. — A man was arrested by Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies Saturday in connection with an ATV theft, among other charges.

The theft of a 2013 Polaris Razor from the garage of a home on the 3600 block of South Mesquite Lane in Scenic, Arizona, was reported last Thursday, according to a press release by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, where forced entry had been made into the home and the garage.

Upon further investigations Saturday, deputies learned from the homeowner that additional items were stolen from his residence, including: the owner’s wallet with identification, a wooden bed frame, two small air compressors, a coffee table with arrow heads under the glass, and a chainsaw, along with .223, .44 and .45 caliber ammunition, according to the press release.

While searching the area, deputies saw a man they recognized as 48-year-old Todd Hammit of Scenic, Arizona, walking west on Little Bend Lane.

Deputies called over to Hammit by his first name and he allegedly said he wasn’t the man they were calling for.

“Deputies contacted Hammit and he continued to deny his identity,” the press release said. “Deputies detained Hammit. A search of Hammit revealed a wallet belonging to the homeowner of the burglary.”

Hammit was arrested without incident and taken to the Mesquite Jail. He was charged with a felony for theft of transportation, along with misdemeanors for theft and giving false information to law enforcement.

“Deputies questioned Hammit about the Razor and he said that he saw one parked behind his residence and he drove it,” according to the press release.

The investigation into the theft is ongoing.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
