ENTERPRISE — A house fire in the 300-400 East block of Main Street in Enterprise left a resident without a place to stay Monday night. Neighbors reported smelling smoke around 2 p.m., but no smoke was visible. Around 5:45 p.m., they saw smoke and called the Fire Department.

The homeowner was not in the dwelling at the time, and with the doors locked, firefighters had to force entry, Enterprise Fire Chief Brenden Moody said. After venting the house and letting the smoke clear out, firefighters entered the structure and discovered the fire was coming from a storage room in the basement.

“There was minimal damage,” Moody said. “Of course there is smoke damage throughout the house.”

Approximately 10 firefighters responded to the fire and it required only a small amount of water to extinguish.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and fire investigators are expected to begin looking into the cause tomorrow.
