ST. GEORGE – The driver of a drilling rig ran into a power line Friday evening, severing the line and temporarily knocking power out for several blocks.
The incident occurred at the site of the former Elks baseball field near 200 South and 300 East. The site is currently being prepared for construction of a new elementary school, which will replace East Elementary School. The driver was uninjured.
“He had his boom up in the air, he was repositioning his truck and drove under the power line,” Rick Madsen, power distribution superintendent for the city of St. George, said.
“He was okay, he was inside the cab of his truck. He stayed there until we had it cleared.”
The area affected by the power outage stretched from the Red Hill to 200 South, and from 100 East to 700 East. Multiple traffic lights in the area were affected by the outage.
The incident was reported at 3:26 P.M., according to Madsen, and power was restored by 3:44.
