Seegmiller is a renowned singer who has seen great success throughout her career both on and off Broadway. This rare performance by Seegmiller will be hosted by St. George Musical Theater in the Historic St. George Opera House, 212 N. Main St. in St. George at 7:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve as part of its annual fundraising Gala.

“We only have one true fundraising event in the year,” St. George Musical Theater Executive Director Bruce Bennett said. “We don’t like asking the community to give us money all the time so we only do one event and hope the community will be generous – and they usually are.”

St. George Musical Theater is a nonprofit community theater open through an audition process to anyone who wants to participate, Bennett said, which is something he said makes the theater group very unique.

The openness of their auditions, coupled with their desire to execute community theater to the highest standard possible, Bennett said, is what makes St. George Musical Theater so special and, he added, patrons really respond to the fact that they deliver high quality at a reasonable price.

St. George Musical Theater is one of the oldest community theater’s in the area, but for almost six years their future seemed uncertain due to financial and organizational difficulties. In 2014 the theater announced its comeback and new home in the St. George Opera House and they have since done some of the most beloved classics as well as new and exciting works on the intimate in-the-round stage.

“We could not do what we do without a supportive city and local government and pool of talented local people,” Bennett said, expressing his gratitude to those who helped and continue to help keep community theater alive in St. George.

The New Year’s Eve Gala, entitled “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” will feature performances by Seegmiller and other special guests and will include a dessert reception and social immediately following.

Tickets are a $75 per person charitable donation, the theater’s news release said, and can be purchased online. Discounted, behind-the-stage seating will also be available and information for those tickets can be found online as well.

“People are always asking how they can help,” Bennett said. “Now is the time; this is how they can help.”

Following the dessert reception there will be a karaoke party for anyone wishing to join. There is no cost for the karaoke party, Bennett said, but donations would be appreciated. Karaoke will continue until midnight to ring in the new year.

“Nobody does karaoke like theater people,” Bennett said.
