Winter weather advisory issued for 7 Southern Utah counties

ST. GEORGE – The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow in Washington, Iron, Kane, Beaver, Garfield, Millard and Piute counties from midnight Thursday until 8 p.m. Friday.

Affected areas

The central and southern mountains, and the southwest valleys of Utah including the cities of Cove Fort, Koosharem, Fish Lake, Loa, Panguitch, Beaver, Cedar City and Milford.

Accumulations

Accumulations of 3 to 7 inches with locally higher amounts in the Cedar City area and over the southern mountains.

Timing

Snow will begin to develop Thursday evening then become heavy at times late Thursday through Friday. Snow will taper off over the central mountains late Friday afternoon, then decrease across the southern mountains early Friday evening.

Impacts

Accumulating snow will impact all routes throughout the central and southern mountains.

Precautionary/preparedness actions

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that snow accumulations will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow-covered roads, and use caution while driving.
