Southern Utah Heritage Choir’s ‘Star of Bethlehem’ celebrates Christ

ST. GEORGE — The Southern Utah Heritage Choir will present three evening performances and one matinee performance of its annual Christmas concert, “Star of Bethlehem.”

The concerts will be performed Thursday, Friday and Sunday at 7 p.m. The matinee performance will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in the St. George Tabernacle, located at 18 S. Main St., St. George. Admission is free.

The Heritage Choir concerts will be directed by Ken Peterson with Nancy Allred, pianist; Carol Larson, pianist; and Karen Cantera, organist. Allred will also direct several of the selections.

The choir will perform “Silent Night,” “Sing an Alleluia,” “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” and Mack Wilberg’s arrangement of “Angels We Have Heard on High.” Other traditional carols, such as “The First Noel” arranged by Dan Forrest, will be a highlight of the evening. Writer and poet Suzanne Brooking will share her Christmas poem, “Star of Bethlehem,” during this event of music and the spoken word.

The Heritage Choir is pleased to feature several guest artists for this Christmas concert. The Strings of Dixie, directed by Kristen Palmer, will perform two different medleys of Christmas Carols. Ka-Wai Yu, newly appointed professor of cello at Dixie State University, will perform a Christmas solo.

Also featured will be several of DSU’s leading male singers: Nathan Myers, tenor; Chris Leonard, tenor; Connor Lee, baritone; and Jacob Pohlsander, baritone.

This concert is sure to bring the true spirit of the season as they celebrate the birth of the Savior, Jesus Christ. The choir invites all to come and join with them for this concert of sacred Christmas music.
