ST. GEORGE — Intermountain Healthcare will hold its annual diabetes fair Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Taylor Health Science Building at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George. The theme for this year’s fair is “Be Diabetes Wise.” The information presented is designed to help those who may not know much about diabetes or how to treat it.
“The fair is a great way to provide accurate information about what diabetes is and gives those who want to find out more access to information straight from the experts,” said Blaire Snell, a dietitian at the Dixie Endocrine and Diabetes Clinic.
There is no charge to attend the fair; it is completely free to the public. Many agencies will be in attendance with helpful information on how to prevent or treat diabetes. There will be prizes and free glucose screenings.
“We believe it is important for people to be well educated on diabetes and the best ways to treat it,” Snell said.
Multiple presentations are scheduled throughout the day, including a demonstration showing how to cook healthful food. Registered doctors and nurse practitioners will be speaking on a variety of subjects, including “Diabetes and Depression.”
When asked about the No. 1 thing people needed to know about diabetes, Snell had the answer: “Diabetes can be controlled without major lifestyle changes.”
The fair provides education regarding helpful, straightforward adjustments.
