CEDAR CITY — A woman was sent to the hospital after two vehicles collided in Cedar City Thursday afternoon.
At around 4 p.m., a woman in a blue Optima was heading north on 800 West when a Jeep backed out of a driveway and struck the front of the Optima, Cedar City Police Officer Jason Thomas said. Both the driver and passenger side airbags deployed in the Optima.
The woman was transported by ambulance to Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City in critical condition.
The two occupants of the Jeep sustained minor injuries but refused ambulance transportation, Thomas said.
The Jeep had damage on the rear bumper, but the Optima took the brunt of the damage on the hood on the right side of the car.
No citations had been issued at the scene at the time this report was taken and the accident will be investigated further.
Thomas said the Jeep didn’t give the Optima driver time to react.
“The car on the road obviously has the right of way,” he said.
Gold Cross Ambulance, Iron County Sheriff’s Office and Cedar City Police responded to the scene.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
