Rep. John Westwood presents on preparing for successful career, ethics

CEDAR CITY — Building a successful career in business, especially in accounting and finance, can present many challenges, but these challenges can be overcome if you are prepared.

Thursday, the former chief financial officer for State Bank of Southern Utah and representative for District 72 of the Utah House of Representatives John R. Westwood will be presenting in the State Bank of Southern Utah “Business Executive Speaker Series” on the topic, “Preparations for a Successful Career and Ethics.”

The presentation will be held in the Starlight Room of the Sharwan Smith Student Center on the Southern Utah University campus at 11:30 a.m.

Westwood graduated from SUU in 1977 in business finance and accounting. While in school, he was the finances manager for the student association. He completed his graduate studies at the University of Washington in banking in 1984, and he worked for the State Bank of Southern Utah for 39 years, having just retired this year.

Westwood is currently serving his fourth session with the House of Representatives. His past civil service includes serving nine years on City Council and 12 years on the City Planning Commission.

Sponsored by the State Bank of Southern Utah and hosted by the SUU School Business, the “Business Executive Speaker Series” is intended for the benefit and education of students, employees and the community at large. The lecture series features accomplished business executives from a variety of industries throughout Utah and beyond who have shared their professional knowledge on timely business issues that affect everyone.

Recent speakers have included the first female president of a major resort on the Las Vegas Strip Renée West, then president and chief operating officer of Excalibur and Luxor Resorts and Casinos; and entrepreneurial phenomenon Bill Child, chairman of the Board for RC Willey.
