WASHINGTON COUNTY — Glowing ghouls, dancing skeletons, giant spiderwebs, creaking coffins, rabid werewolves and zombie babies feasting on a gory buffet are just some of the spooky delights you will find as you drive around Washington County this Halloween.

From a tech-savvy projection display to handcrafted props to over-the-top guts and gore, Washington County residents Brent Martin, Todd Wood and Tammy Adair, along with their very understanding families, have pulled out all the stops to create some of the most eye-catching, macabre fun around — and community members are invited to come see.

The Martin residence | 2038 S. Great Basin Drive, Washington City

Technology is put to good use at the Martin residence, where visitors will find digitally created Halloween images perfectly synced to music and projected onto the house.

Talking pumpkins tell haunting tales and skeletons get groovy to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” at this haunted location. Guests will also find creepy inflatable creatures and some unexpected scares.

Visitors can tune in to the fun from their cars by turning the radio to 98.3 FM, or they can enjoy the show outside.

Martin has been in the business of scaring people for years and said he loves doing his creative holiday displays for the neighbors to come out and enjoy.

“It’s fun to scare people,” Martin said. “The reaction we get out of people is priceless, and they love it and it creates laughs. It creates joy and laughter.”

The Wood residence | 1993 Gubler Drive, Santa Clara

A giant spiderweb adorns the Wood residence in Santa Clara, where visitors are treated to a spooky graveyard filled with creaking coffins and their undead occupants.

Wickedly cool lighting and handbuilt props set the mood for an eerie Allhallows Eve.

Halloween is Wood’s favorite holiday, he said, and not only does he deck out his house for the occasion, but he also created a YouTube channel dedicated to teaching others how to create his spooky decor.

Drive by on Halloween and you will find a perfect storm of ghoulish delights, including thunder and lightning effects and an errant skeleton driving a jeep.

The Adair residence | 236 S. 2100 East, St. George

If it is guts and gore you crave on Halloween, drive by the Adair residence, where nearly every inch of yard space is covered in freakish creatures, from werewolves and mummies to zombie babies and masochistic monsters.

Adair’s home is not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach, as bloody scenes abound; but those who dare venture in will find a dark and wonderful world of horror.

Adair’s haunted collection continues to grow, she said, adding that she ran out of yard space a few years ago yet continues to come up with new ideas and props to build.

“My husband is so nice,” Adair said. “Every year I come up with something else I want him to build for me.”

Adair said it takes about a week for her to set up the entire display, though it is never really done.

“I am always out in the yard playing,” she said. “It’s just fun — it is not stressful like other holidays.”
