MESQUITE, Nev. – Mesquite Fire Rescue responders battled a fire at a residence in Mesquite, Nevada, Wednesday afternoon, also treating the owner of the home for smoke inhalation at the scene.
At 12:43 p.m. PDT, responders were dispatched to reports of a fire on Basin View Place in Mesquite.
Upon arrival, crews could not see any visible smoke or flames from the street, according to a press release from Mesquite Fire Rescue. However, upon entering the garage, firefighters found smoke and an active fire inside.
Fire crews removed the garage door to vent the garage and also provide better visibility, the press release stated. Multiple handlines were used by interior crews in an attempt to extinguish the fire, while the exterior crew vented the front of the residence.
The fire was contained to the contents of the garage area only and was extinguished within 20 minutes, according to the press release. There was no damage to the structure.
Once the fire was out, responders checked for hot spots through the roofline of the home and continued ventilating the building.
The owner of the home was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Beaver Dam Fire assisted by taking an emergency medical service call while the Mesquite responders were battling the fire. Beaver Dam responders then came to the fire scene to assist in cleanup.
Once the “all clear” was given, Mesquite Fire Rescue Chief Kash Christopher released the fire scene to City of Mesquite building inspector Dale Tobler, according to the press release.
In addition to Mesquite Fire Rescue and Beaver Dam Fire, Clark County Fire from Logandale also responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Only six Mesquite Fire Rescue personnel were on duty to fight the fire, Christopher said, so he and Deputy Chief Rick Resnick respond to the call, as well, as “specific assignments are required to safely execute an offensive fire attack.”
“Thankfully, no one was hurt,” Christopher said, “and the fire was contained to contents only and did not spread through the house or adjacent homes.”
