ST. GEORGE — The St. George Spooky Town Fair is coming up Friday and Saturday in the St. George Town Square, with activities ranging from a magic show, an eating contest and carnival games to costume contests, dancing and singing.
The Spooky Town Fair is put on by the Washington County School District Foundation, St. George Chamber of Commerce and the St. George Book Festival. It is perfect for smaller children as it focuses on fun rather than fright. Costumes are encouraged, and there will be prizes for the best entries, both human and animal. Carnival games will delight all ages, ranging from minigolf to a pumpkin toss.
This is the fair’s fourth year, Foundation Director Pam Graf said, and attendance has grown each year.
New this year will be the “Kids Adventure Challenge,” with an inflatable slide, a zip line and a bungee-jump trampoline.
“This is a family-friendly event with affordable games and bounce houses,” Graf said. “We have vendor booths, continuous entertainment and so much more. We have a real live Pirate Cove with a ship and live pirates who help you dig for coins and jewels.”
This season will be host to lots of Halloween activities, so what makes this one different?
“All the money raised (at the fair) goes back into the ‘Teacher Classroom Grant Program,’ which, in the end, helps kids,” Graf said. The teacher applies and, if selected, is awarded up to $500 for his or her classroom project, she said. This allows them the chance to teach a more hands-on project or possibly buy a new computer, depending on what they apply for.
The foundation has a book booth where they will be selling new Scholastic books for $1.
“This is a great way for the community to support the Washington County School District and local business in a fun outdoor venue,” St. George Chamber President Gregg McArthur said. “It’s a centrally-located place to find local vendors and a great place for consumers and area residents to get to know a good number of local businesses.”
