Dixie State University (2-4) at Azusa Pacific University (3-3), today, Citrus Stadium, Azusa CA 6:30 Pacific Time
Previous Meeting: Sept. 26, 2015 — Cougars 34, Red Storm 5 (Red Storm could not get passing game on track. DeJon Coleman gains over 100 yards).
Overall Series Record: Cougars lead head-to-head series 9-3
Broadcast: ESPN SportsRadio 97.7 FM; southernutahlive.com; portal.stretchinternet.com/apu

dsulogoHead coach: Scott Brumfield (6th year, 13-47 overall)
Offense: Pistol, Pro Set
Defense: Pro 4-3
Last Game: Beat Simon Fraser 38-35 (Oct. 10, 2015)
Players to watch: Quarterback Tyson Blackner got his first start last week. The Storm offense put up one yard shy of 500. Nate Stephens led the receivers with 133 yards. DeJon Coleman rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Colton Olsen has been a beast at the safety position. Linebacker Mike Mason led the team in tackles last week.

AzusaCougarslogoHead Coach: Victor Santa Cruz (11th year at HSU, 56-48 overall)
Offense: Spread
Defense: Eagle
Last Game: Lost to Humboldt State 34-16 (Oct. 10, 2015)
Players to watch: Running back Kurt Scoby averages 117 yards rushing. The Cougars split their offense equally between pass and run, but their passing game garners two-thirds of the total yardage. Chad Jeffries leads the GNAC in passing and throws for 240 yards per game. He spreads the ball around well but his favorite targets are wide receivers Blake Robertson and Ethan Zeidler. Defensively linebackers Jonathan Thropay and Errik Manning lead the team in tackles. Defensive tackle Charles Burks has three sacks on the year. Free safety Josh Atkinson leads the team in interceptions with three.

The Cougars have lost two since their win against the Storm in St. George. They are beatable. The hurdle may be more mental than physical for Dixie State. When the Storm’s offense is playing mistake-free and not placing the defense in bad field position, the result is usually a W. Blackner is every bit as fun to watch as Barney. He has speed and generally makes good decisions. Defensively DSU has been dinged up. But Robert Metz returned last week after two weeks out. This game is considered a non-conference game, but a win against the Cougars will pull DSU to 3-4 going into a game against South Dakota next week where they would have a good chance of pulling even for the season.
