Weird tales: Dark road through the woods

ST. GEORGE – October seems to be the time of year when we recall those odd little occurrences we can’t quite explain. Creepy little things that may (or may not) have happened to us seem more significant now that the days grow shorter. Stories from our past, now murky through the haze of time, cause us to shiver just a bit as we approach this month’s spooky holiday. A few of our friends decided to share some of their stories of encounters with places and things that left a chilling little mark on their psyche.

When Mori Kessler went on his mission to eastern Canada and northern Maine he had no idea he’d have so many strange experiences.

“It was very green, quite different from the desert,” he said. “I was expecting to go there and do the ‘door-to-door religionist’ bit. Nothing really freaky happened until I got into Maine.”

After his time there he understood why it was a perfect setting for a horror story. Pushed by unseen hands on the doorstep of an empty house and chased down a dark road by something lurking in the woods, it’s safe to say Kessler will never forget his visit to the Pine Tree State.
