SOUTHERN UTAH — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a flash flood watch for the majority of Southern Utah, including Zion National Park, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and Capitol Reef National Park from late Friday night through Saturday evening.
Periods of locally heavy rainfall are possible across Southern Utah late Friday night through the day Saturday. Normally dry washes, small streams, slot canyons, areas near recent fires and streams in steep terrain will be most prone to flooding.
Additionally, dirt roadways will turn muddy and may become impassable.
Precautionary/preparedness actions
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
