ST. GEORGE – One man was taken to the hospital Friday night after a two-car collision resulting from a left-hand turn in the intersection of 100 South and River Road.
Around 10:30 p.m., the driver of a northbound SUV on River Road entered the intersection and stopped before making a left turn to go west on 100 South. The SUV turned in front of a southbound Nissan passenger car and a collision resulted, St. George Police Sgt. Dave Williams said.
Both vehicles were able to limp into different parking lots on opposite sides of the road and left a small debris field in the middle of the intersection.
The driver of the SUV, an adult woman, was the sole occupant of that vehicle and was uninjured. In the Nissan were three children and two adults. The children and the driver were wearing seat belts, Williams said, but an adult male passenger was not.
He received what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, Williams said. He also appeared to be conscious and alert while talking to police officers and medics. Nonetheless, after being checked out by medics on scene, the man was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George by Gold Cross Ambulance.
No citations were issued at the time as the investigation into the accident was still under way, Williams said.
The Nissan was towed from the scene.
