CEDAR CITY — Color is exploding in the Dixie National Forest as seasonal changes become evident, and shades of autumn hues are everywhere, turning the aspen leaves shades of red, orange and yellow.

Autumn brings changes to the type of recreation and use of the forest as well. Orange-clad hunters are practicing the upcoming search for the prize deer. Families are fishing, riding all-terrain vehicles and hiking. Livestock is being moved off the forest areas after a summer of grazing.

Snow is getting ready to fall. Preparations are being made at Brian Head, Deer Hollow and the miles of groomed snowmobile trails in forests in Southern Utah.

“With school fall breaks and hunting season, October is a great time to get out on the Dixie,” Dixie National Forest Supervisor Angelita Bulletts said. “Plan to stay another day and take the time to celebrate traditions, heritage and reconnect with family on the Dixie National Forest.”
