Shay Deon Gubler, 45, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015, in St. George, Utah, surrounded by his family. He was born in Idaho, February 27, 1970. He is the youngest son of DeLoy and LaDawn Porter Gubler.

Shay was raised in St. George and graduated from Dixie High School. When Shay was young, he spent every summer at the ranches in Panguitch or out on the Arizona Strip. He loved riding horses, roping, riding calves, riding dirt bikes and fishing in Panguitch. He also enjoyed playing baseball, football and playing horse basketball with his brothers and nephews, but most of all, he enjoyed winning.

Shay had the biggest heart and biggest smile. He loved everyone. He was especially fond of his nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. He was such a kid magnet.

Shay was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed cooking, family gatherings, playing cards, watching movies, listening to the 80s music and taking his great nephews to the park to play ball. He had a great fondness for new shoes, especially Reebok.

Shay is survived by his sisters, Natalie Andrus, Bernadine (Billy) Ranger-Leon, Jeannie (Darwin) Atwood and Rachel (David) Heinrich; brothers Claude (Jami) Gubler, Ben Gubler; nephew and best friend, Giles (Arie) Milne; nieces, Nicole (Gary) Sittre, Brooke Ranger, Jessica Kimball, Sadie (Ryan) Rondo, Tarahlyn (Ruben) Sanchez, Shelby Ranger, Ellie Gubler, Cassidy (Brycen) Erdody, Dakota Gubler, Madison Gubler, Brynlee Gubler, Annabelle Kimball and Ava Gubler; nephews, Chase (Whitney) Atwood, Caleb Heinrich, Todd Ranger, Porter Atwood, Hunter Gubler, Tristan Atwood, Bianca Ranger, Zackary Gubler and Easton Heinrich; and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, DeLoy and LaDawn Porter Gubler, and his brother Chad Gubler.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 8, 11 a.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff Street, St. George.
  • A viewing will be viewing will be Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the mortuary.
  • Interment will take place in the Ivins City Cemetery.
