ARCATA, Calif. – The Dixie State football team went on the road for the first time this year and got shell-shocked by the scoring barrage put on by nationally-ranked Humboldt State University, 66-7.

The team traded punts to start the game. On DSU’s second possession punter Christian Rodriguez did not get the punt off and was tackled back at the Dixie 9-yard line. Two plays later, HSU put up the first points of the game on a pass from quarterback Robert Webber to Chase Krivashei.

dsulogohsuDixie State responded with a 10-play, 67-yard drive to tie the game. Quarterback Blake Barney ran 33 yards on the final play of the drive to score the touchdown. The Jacks’ defense would keep DSU at bay the rest of the night.

The Jacks scored on their next possession to go up 14-7. Dixie State was able to pin the Jacks offense deep on their next punt. But Webber found wide receiver Marquise Deadwiler for 93 yards and the lead climbed to 21-7.

On HSU’s first possession of the second quarter, kicker Cameron Southward found the uprights on a 47-yard field goal to put the Jacks up 24-7.

DSU had more special team problems when Rodriguez’ punt was blocked by defensive back Nick Sharpe on its next possession and Jeff Shott picked the ball up and found the end zone to put HSU up 31-7 before intermission.
