MISSING: Early morning search for Macin Smith; no results, team hopeful

ST. GEORGE — Approximately 200 volunteers showed up in the Little Valley suburb of St. George Saturday morning to canvass the surrounding areas in search of missing teen Macin Smith.

Smith’s uncle, Keith Bratt, posted on Facebook Saturday afternoon:

Macin was not found, but it was a huge success in eliminating where he is not. This is a needle in a haystack, and a lot of hay was taken off the pile this morning.

Volunteers were assigned areas to search and to canvass neighborhoods distributing fliers and asking if anyone has seen the teenager who disappeared Sept. 1. The volunteers brought all-terrain vehicles, two-way radios, and one person brought their dog.

The search, which convened at 6 a.m., lasted only three hours as the organizers wanted to make sure no one suffered from excessive heat.

The searchers were originally planning to meet in the Bloomington neighborhood south of St. George, but organizers decided they wanted to keep the search close to Smith’s home and changed the meeting place Friday night. There was a volunteer at the Bloomington location to direct volunteers to the new meet-up point.

The Red Rock Search and Rescue team out of Las Vegas has been consulted regarding the disappearance and are focusing on reported sightings in Las Vegas.

“I’m pretty sure he’s here in Las Vegas,” founder David Cummings said. “I’m doing BOLOs (Be On the LookOut), we’re going out to literally thousands today in Las Vegas and we plan on being back on the Strip tonight.”

The latest flier issued by Red Rock states that Smith may be in need of medical attention. Cummings would not elaborate on what the medical needs might be.

“I’m really comfortable that he is going to be found OK,” Cummings said.

      FUNBAG:
On articles like this, leave the crude comments out.

      MACIN:
Dude, I hope that you are okay. If you read this drop 50 cents in a payphone and call your family because they’re worried about you.

      TO THE FAMILY:
I can’t be there in the search but I am keeping my eye out nonetheless. I hope they find him soon and that he is alive and well. You are in my thoughts.
