The “Great American Stampede” is the first of 10 regional rodeos in the Rocky Mountain Region.

Southern Utah University rodeo team coach Shane Flanigan said that collegiate rodeo teams across the region will be competing, including SUU, Dixie State University, Snow College, Utah Valley University, Weber State University, Utah State University, Idaho State University, College of Southern Idaho, Colorado Mesa University, Colorado Northwest Community College, plus independent competitors from various colleges and universities.

We expect to see some great talent at this rodeo,” Flanigan said. “These athletes are really dedicated to their sport and are determined to do their schools proud.”

The Iron Rangers Arena at the Cross Hollow Event Center will be the sight of bull riding, bronc riding, team roping, barrel racing, calf roping and more starting at 7 p.m. both nights.

Two world-famous specialty acts will be featured both nights with the Riata Ranch Cowboy Girls and the Diamond Z Shire Hitch.

The world-famous Riata Ranch Cowboy Girls’ trick riding and roping skills are impressive, a release on the event said. They were invited by the Queen of England to perform at the Queen Diamond Jubilee. Queen Elizabeth was on the edge of her seat, grinning with a huge smile while watching the talented girls perform, the release said.

The Diamond Z English Shire hitch performs internationally with the tallest and most elegant draft horses trained by Chis Home.

From laugh out loud comedy to extreme riding, the horses are the stars and you’ll see cowboys and cowgirls accomplish the impossible!
