ST. GEORGE  Four people were taken to the hospital after a three-vehicle collision on Sunset Boulevard in St. George Saturday afternoon. A man fled from the scene of the incident, and suspected drugs and paraphernalia were found in the vehicle he’d been riding in.

Just after 3 p.m., the driver of a Geo Prizm traveling west on Sunset Boulevard was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Westridge Drive, St. George Police Sgt. David Williams said, and failed to yield at a yellow light.

The Prizm collided with a Ford Ranger that was traveling east on Sunset Boulevard, Williams said. The impact spun the Prizm in the intersection, and it hit a Chevrolet Suburban that was turning right from Westridge Drive onto Sunset Boulevard.

The three occupants of the Geo Prizm were not wearing seat belts at the time of the incident, Williams said.

Both the Prizm’s driver and front seat passenger were transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George with injuries that did not appear life-threatening, he said.

“There was no indication that the driver of the passenger car was impaired,” Williams said. “We did locate some suspected drugs and paraphernalia in the vehicle, so that investigation is still ongoing.”

The third occupant of the Prizm fled from the scene of the accident. A witness followed him and notified police so they could make contact with him.

Williams said he suspects the young man may have left the scene because of the drugs found in the car, but that is still under investigation.

“I have my suspicions that had to do with what we’ve located in the car, but he didn’t provide us with a reason,” Williams said.

The young man who fled the scene suffered cuts on his face as a result of the accident, but he refused ambulance transport to the hospital.

The driver of the Ford truck was also transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center with injuries that didn’t appear to be life-threatening, Williams said. The passenger of the truck was transported, as well, as a precaution. Both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

No other injuries were reported.

Both the Geo Prizm and Ford Ranger sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.

The Chevrolet Suburban sustained very minor damage and was driven from the scene, Williams said.

The driver of the Geo Prizm was given a citation for failure to yield.

The matter of the suspected drugs and paraphernalia found in the Prizm is still under investigation, Williams said, due to the driver and passenger being in the hospital.

In addition to the St. George Police Department, the St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

LOL.! I think it’s safe to assume that the young man left the scene because of the drugs and paraphernalia found in the vehicle
