ST. GEORGE — School’s back in session, August nears a close and Sunset on the Square holds its season finale Friday night in Town Square Park, 50 S. Main St., St. George, featuring “Legend of Zorro” at dusk with a full agenda of activities beforehand starting at 6 p.m., a concert at 6:30 p.m. and Chamber night, recognizing St. George businesses.
Pre-event games and food
The Town Square comes alive at 6 p.m. with food and other vendors, Dealer Collision Water Balloon Challenge and conga lines, hokey pokey games, prizes, splash pad, face painting, and activities led by Event Master of Ceremonies Dawn McLain.
Carlie Wall in concert
From 6:30-7 p.m. entertainment begins with local favorite Carlie Wall solo in concert. Wall blends the soul of rock with an emotional tug-at-the-heartstrings of country.
A true local’s favorite, by the time Wall was 15, she was already a seasoned professional. Now 19 and after a brief hiatus, Wall has already won numerous accolades for her music including the Vernal Colgate Country Showdown for Utah and winning two years in a row at SUSWA’s Open-Mic competition. She was selected for “Best Of” in 2009 by the Southern Utah Song Writers of America with her song “Glass Wall.”
“This is a performance our community will not want to miss,” McLain said. “Carlie is a wonderful singer, and this is a great gift to our community. As we close out this season on Friday, I know Carlie will have the crowd screaming encore, encore!”
Wall will be available to sign autographs and meet fans after her concert.
Breaking the Cycles
Breaking the Cycles team will be on hand to talk about homelessness in America and to welcome Switchpoint Community Resource Center Executive Director Carol Hollowell who plans to ride into Town Square at 6:30 p.m. on a stopover on her cross-country bike ride with her husband that started in San Francisco Aug. 20. The Hollowells are cycling 3,897 miles in 40 days with the goal of inspiring people and shelters across the nation to help break the cycle of homelessness.

Stock the pantry, win a prize
Switchpoint has a new pantry and it needs to be stocked. Sunset on the Square is holding a collection Friday night and everyone can help by bringing canned and dry food goods. Those donating will be entered in a drawing for one of the evening’s prizes.

Drawings, prizes
This week’s prizes include several tickets to Tuacahn Amphitheatre, gift certificates and more.
KCSG Television and St. George News will provide certificates for dinner at Pizza Factory and a Family Pass for Fiesta Family Fun Center.
Safety programs
The City of St. George will feature two safety programs associated with its anti-texting campaigns. Information and materials will be available on-site for the Heads Up Thumbs Up and Stop The Texts, Stop The Wrecks programs.
Games
Throughout the evening, the Dixie Elks will offer lawn games –mini-basketball, hula-hooping and a bean bag toss – as well as face painting and crates.
Charity for Children’s Museum
Before the movie starts, Brad Harr & Associations will be presenting a check to the St. George Children’s Museum from the Wonka Bar contest held at Sunset on the Square’s Nonprofit Night in June.
The contest was a tremendous success, McLain said, and the funds raised by vendor Brad Harr & Associates truly reflect the collaborative spirit that Sunset on the Square promotes.

Over the past seven years, Sunset on the Square has become a staple for locals during the summer months. The Friday night free family movie series is hosted by Write It Up! in partnership with the City of St. George. Led by McLain, the series has become known for its family-friendly fun, prizes, movies and so much more.
