Firefighters from St. George and Beaver Dam fire departments were dispatched to the scene around 10:50 p.m. when the driver of a Peterbilt truck carrying livestock reported that the cab of the semi was on fire.

The driver began making efforts to detach the cab from the trailer to protect the pigs inside.

“We understood that there was animals onboard,” Beaver Dam Fire Chief Jeff Hunt said. “We didn’t know what the animals were.”

The St. George Fire Department was asked to respond to the scene, Hunt said, because the department had a fire engine at milepost 2, a short distance away.

“We got on scene,” Hunt said, “St. George Fire was here and had the fire taken out – put out, so we were able to just clear the scene.”

The fire was contained to the cab of the truck, Hunt said, and caused no damage to the trailer or the pigs it contained.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
