ST. GEORGE – An 18-year-old woman was charged with third-degree felony aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury Sunday after a physical altercation with another woman led to the woman being hospitalized with head injuries.
Police arrested McKayla Baylee Mickelsen, of St. George, after she allegedly assaulted the 21-year-old woman by kicking her in the head approximately 16-20 times, according to a probable cause statement filed by the St. George Police Department in support of the arrest.
The woman was admitted into Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, the statement said, for injuries she sustained during the assault, including a “brain bleed.”
“(The woman’s) left eye was swollen completely shut,” the arresting officer wrote. “She also had significant swelling on the side of her head near her left ear. I also noticed redness on her back.”
Mickelsen told police she was defending herself from the woman, the statement said, before invoking her right to remain silent.
Mickelsen was arrested and booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.
Due to the significance of the injuries the woman sustained during the assault, the statement said, Mickelsen was charged with third-degree felony aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
Judge Jeffrey Wilcox, of the 5th District Court, ordered $10,000 bail for Mickelsen’s release pending trial.
She was found indigent by the court during her initial court appearance Monday and will be represented by court-appointed attorney Michael Lastowski. She is scheduled to make her next court appearance Sept. 14.
Mickelsen has since been released on bail.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

There’s a problem with her self defense case- the force can only be as much as the force she isdefending herself against and that is not the case here..(Allegedly) she beat the crap out of the other person.
Indigent? Who came up with the $1000 to get her out of jail?
um, if someone attacks me… i’m gonna make dang sure they stay on the ground.. they don’t need to make me take my hat off today.. hasen’t anybody seen those movies where the killer looks dead or knocked out and they get back up and try to kill you somemore? just sayin. for real though—–>>>>> on an actual serious note——->>>>>>>> this person (the one on the ground) would have to be THAT dangerous.. to kick in the head that many times.. so she will have to prove her life was utterly in danger with risk to be killed.. that will NOT be easy to do without A. witnesses B. victim having previous offenses of being a danger to others.. and C. she had a weapon.. (a weapon changes everything, you brandish a weapon.. you going down.. ——–>>>>>>>if the other girl and her were just in a squabble over a boyfriend or rent and it was to be a hair pulling event to begin with.. girl better get your self a famous lawyer.. cause you in trouble. you can’t just kick someone over and over about the head area cause your all ticked at them.. or worse, have overpowered them and your adrennals are still going.. you better learn how to stop those b/c you need to housed if your gonna have that kind of problem among society..
