The Region 9 girls soccer season is off and running with all the teams in the league in action this week.

soccerRegion play begins early next month, but the teams are getting ready for it by running through a full range of opponents in the preseason. Wednesday, Cedar defeated Canyon View in what is now a non-region game (with the Falcons defecting to Region 12). Defending region champ Dixie started the season right with a 3-0 win at Delta Thursday. Also Thursday, Desert Hills hosted 4A East and played to a tie and Hurricane visited Maeser Prep in Las Vegas and fell by two goals.

Two other Cedar players, Holly Carpenter and Julia Hunt, scored two goals each. The eighth goal was scored by Tasha Kamachi. Morgan Myers and Megan Giddings teamed up for the shutout. Cedar next plays tonight at Wasatch.

Dixie, which fell to Cedar in the state semifinals last season, hit the road on the first day of school and brought home a 3-0 win over Delta. Kennedy Warnik had two goals and Starlee Woodbury scored as well in the shutout win. Dixie hosts Lehi tonight with an 8 p.m. kickoff.

Desert Hills, which lost to the Lady Reds in the 3A title game last year, played to a 1-1 draw with the East Leopards. Both teams notched a goal in the first half, with Brook Lott finding the back of the net for DH. But the defenses took over after intermission to keep the game deadlocked. Keeper Brittney Moore played well for the Thunder. The Lady Thunder host Lehi Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

In a high-scoring affair, Maeser Prep knocked off Hurricane 5-3. The Lady Tigers, with new coach Luke Stevens, play again Saturday morning (10 a.m.) against Providence Hall at HHS.

The other two region teams, Pine View and Snow Canyon, play tonight. The Lady Panthers host Mountain View at Panther Stadium at 7:30 p.m. and the Lady Warriors are home against Providence Hall, also a 7:30 p.m. start.

The first Region 9 games are Sept. 8.
