IVINS — The Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins will host a campus wide “R.E.D. Shirt Friday” photo event Friday morning and is inviting the public to participate.
The veterans home staff have participated in many R.E.D. Fridays and said they are especially excited for this upcoming event.
“Our Veteran Resident Council has organized a R.E.D. Shirt Friday to allow residents to support veterans and soldiers from around the world,” Recreation Director Vie Van Noy said. “Supported by President Stan Snow, all of our residents now have R.E.D. shirts to wear alongside our staff. This collaborative effort is just one of the many reasons the Southern Utah Veterans Home team is so passionate about what we do to help and provide a better quality of life for all veterans.”
The R.E.D. Shirt movement is recognized and celebrated across the nation. R.E.D. stands for “remember everyone deployed.” The program was created in 2006 to show support and appreciation for those who serve our country in the armed forces. In nine years, the movement has grown to include support from hundreds of organizations and tens of thousands of individuals.
“Our goal is to support our veterans, not just locally, but on a global scale,” Administrator Jerry Olson said. “This Friday we are looking forward to standing together in a show of solidarity, in support of and appreciation for all that our military is doing today, and the dedication that so many veterans have given throughout history.”
Remembering everyone deployed by wearing red every Friday is a unifying experience for communities, allowing servicemen and women to know their sacrifices will not go unnoticed, and showing that communities stand together in support of their efforts and unwavering dedication to the United States.
“This Friday we would like to invite our community to join us for R.E.D. Shirt Friday,” Noy said. “Our staff and residents will all be in red and really want to make a statement of appreciation by (inviting) R.E.D. Shirt Friday community supporters to join us for our official R.E.D. Shirt Friday photo this week.”
