Searchers find body believed to be 5-year-old Jerold Williams

ST. GEORGE – The search for a 5-year-old Colorado City, Arizona, boy, missing since Thursday in Kaibab National Forest near Jacob Lake, Arizona, has concluded Monday night. Authorities confirmed they found the body of a dead child they believe to be Jerold Williams.

“I can confirm that we did find a child’s body that we do believe is our missing person,” Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Gerry Blair said.

Details regarding where the body was found and by whom are not yet available as this report is published.

Hundreds of searchers from all over Arizona, neighboring Utah and even as far away as Washington state joined the search for Jerold. Community members from Colorado City, Arizona, and neighboring Hildale, Utah, also responded by the hundreds, helping in the search and also preparing meals for the volunteers.

Jerold went missing at about 1:30 p.m. MST Thursday. The child was reportedly chasing grasshoppers when his mother lost sight of him.

UPDATE 7:30 p.m. Coconino County Sheriff’s Office posted the following on its Facebook page at 7:30 p.m.: “Investigators are en route to the scene where Jerold Joseph Williams has been found deceased. Jerold is the 5 year old whom searchers have been looking for over the past several days. We have no further details at this time.”

    I am terribly sorry to hear they found the child dead, I am grateful they did find him. This is a very sad situation. my best to his family.
