ST. GEORGE — A blown tire along Interstate 15 Sunday morning resulted in a car smashing into the back of a boat trailer near milepost 8.

Just after 10:30 a.m., two northbound trucks each pulling boats on trailers were following one another on I-15, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Mike Murphy said, when the lead truck blew a tire.

The two trucks slowed down and started to merge to the shoulder of the Interstate to fix the tire.

A man in his mid-20s, driving a red Hyundai, didn’t notice the two trucks had slowed, Murphy said, and crashed into the boat trailer being pulled by the second truck.

The man driving the Hyundai suffered a minor cut on his head, Murphy said. He was treated by responders at the scene but refused transport to the hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

While the boat trailer had damage to the back bumper and also sustained damage near the hitch, the Hyundai sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene.

The driver of the Hyundai was issued a citation for following too close.

Utah Highway Patrol, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
