ST. GEORGE — In an effort to help community members meet their educational goals and enroll in college courses, Dixie State University is hosting an open registration event Monday, 9 a.m., in the Zion Room on the fifth floor of Holland Centennial Commons at the university, 225 S. 700 East, St. George.

“The registration event is a great way for students to receive personalized advisement,” said C.J. Ferguson, assistant director of orientation and outreach. “Regardless if students know what they want to study or are starting by taking general education courses, they will get the guidance they need.”

The event is for students who have applied and would like to register for classes. Prospective students who have not yet filled out an application may also get help at the event.

“We are opening it up as a last minute deal to accommodate everybody,” Ferguson said. “If they haven’t filled out an application, we will get that going and at least get the process rolling.”

The event offers prospective students the opportunity to work one-on-one with academic advisers. Representatives from the nearly 30 baccalaureate programs that will be offered this fall and general education advisers will be available to help students make a plan that will guide them toward graduation.

During the event, the $35 admission fee will be deferred until tuition and fees are due Aug. 17. Reservations are not necessary, and all students considering taking classes this fall are encouraged to attend.

If students bring their high school transcripts with them, they will be admitted that day, said a release. Advisers can still help students get started with the enrollment process even if they don’t have their transcripts.

Earning a degree from Dixie State University is a great opportunity for both students who have recently finished high school and those who are in the middle of their careers.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, a person with a bachelor’s degree makes an average of $27,192 more a year than a worker who only has a high school diploma. Over a 40-year career, that is more than a million dollars. Furthermore, by 2018, 60 percent of all job openings will require a college education.

It’s not too late to attend Dixie State,” said David Roos, the university’s executive director of enrollment services. “Attending Dixie State University is a great way to prepare for a new career or advance the one you are already in. Don’t get left behind; take control of your future and sign up for classes today.”

Future students unavailable to attend the event can still apply online or in person on the first floor of the Holland Centennial Commons. Classes begin Aug. 24, and registration is open until then.
