MESQUITE, Nev. – One man is lying in the hospital while another man sits in police custody after an alleged assault with a deadly weapon that took place Friday night in a Mesquite parking lot.
Early Saturday morning, a 26-year-old man arrived at Mesa View Regional Hospital with substantial injuries to his head, according to a press statement issued by the Mesquite Police Department Monday afternoon.
Officers were dispatched to the hospital to investigate the incident as an alleged assault.
After interviewing the man as well as those who transported him to the hospital, officers learned the injuries were the result of an altercation that had occurred in the parking lot of a Mesquite casino.
Due to the extent of the man’s injuries, he was subsequently transported to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
“The suspect in the altercation had brandished a handgun, pointing it at the victim,” the Police Department said. “The male victim was then attacked, but the handgun was not fired.”
Officers responded to the casino where the assault had occurred and collected statements from witnesses and evidence left at the scene.
Through an investigation, officers identified the suspect as 21-year-old Austan Green, of Mesquite, the Police Department said. Officers were able to quickly locate Green and take him into custody.
Green was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon (handgun), and felony battery with substantial bodily harm.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
