FREDONIA, Ariz. — The Burnt Complex fire increased to 3,123 acres Friday with 23 firefighting personnel committed to managing what started as the lightning-caused Burnt Fire and Corral Fire discovered early July. With light monsoonal precipitation, fire managers expect smoke to lessen over the coming days.
Fire crews, Saturday, are monitoring the perimeter as fire behavior moves toward the southern boundaries of the planned area – 3,915 acres bound by Forest Service Road 228 on the north, FSR 274 on the south and west and FSR 22 on the east.
Local weather for the Kaibab Plateau indicated scattered showers and thunderstorms developing Friday evening and extending through Sunday with a 30-percent chance of precipitation Saturday and a 20-percent chance of precipitation Sunday.
No road or trail closures are in effect or anticipated; however, hazard signs are posted, and motorists should exercise caution when around traveling near the planning area boundary.
Fire management resources committed to the Burnt Complex, as of Friday, include one Type II Wildland Fire Module, two Type-6 engines, 17 wildland firefighters and six overhead firefighters.
