ST. GEORGE — A first-of-its-kind car seat is now on the market. Wal-Mart and Evenflo recently announced a new infant car seat with new technology designed to prompt a driver when there is a passenger present.
There are a number of reasons why children are inadvertently left in vehicles, but new technology could provide peace of mind amid life’s distractions. The Evenflo Advance SensorSafe Embrace DLX car seat is designed to prevent children from dying in hot cars.
The Evenflo SensorSafe technology will generate a series of tones, according to Evenflo’s website, which will remind the driver that there is a baby in the vehicle. SensorSafe works with the car’s onboard diagnostics system.

The tones that the car seat will generate are activated through a smart chest clip and wireless receiver, which will also notify the driver if the chest clip becomes unbuckled during transit, according to Wal-Mart’s website. The tones will also sound when the driver arrives at their destination.
As recently as last year, an 11-month-old girl from Hurricane died because she was left in a vehicle for a substantial period of time without the vehicle running.
On average, 38 children die every year as a result of being trapped in hot cars, according to KidsAndCars.org.
“Nobody ever thinks something like this could happen to them, until it does,” Deborah Hersman, National Safety Council president and CEO, said. “Unfortunately, every summer, dozens of children die as a result of high temperatures inside of cars. These unintended mistakes can devastate families … .”
Wal-Mart sells the Evenflo SensorSafe car seat exclusively. The car seat is now available to purchase online, retailing for around $150.
“SensorSafe Technology is the sound reminder that can save a life,” according to the Wal-Mart website.

I read about a free and easy way to trigger that instinct. Always have a stuffed animal (sm or lg) in the empty car seat. Toss it in the front seat when you have your child in the back car seat. When you get to your destination, If you need a jog of memory, you’ll see the stuffed toy when you’re gathering your belongings from the front passenger seat.
Better yet, put your cell phone in the car seat with the kid. You shouldn’t be using it while driving anyway, and while many a parent will forget a kid in the car, I can guarantee you they won’t forget their cell phone for long…
Better still, tuck ur ham sandwich in with ur lil baby, and come lunch time you’ll remember where you left it…
LOL…. Good one
Why not just leave the kid at home.? It beats driving around with a parent that’s so stupid they can’t remember they’re kid is in the car… LOL.!
Just wondering if the parent(s) who would need this so as to remember the child or children would shell out $150 per seat.
How sad is it that it takes an alarm to remind u a child is in the car seat? Two words…. COMMON SENSE
Once again technology has saved the freakin day
If you need devices to remind you that your child is in the car then you probably shouldn’t have children
