ST. GEORGE – A single father missing from St. George for the last two weeks has returned home.
Greg Palmer, of St. George, who went missing July 11, is home safe and sound, and friends say he picked up his 3-year-old son Sunday morning.
In a post on his Facebook page Sunday afternoon, Palmer said:
Would like to apologize to everyone for putting everyone through all of this and I am very very sorry and did not realize so many people cared. Thank everyone for your help and your concerns and again I am sorry I put everyone through this.
St. George Police located Palmer Sunday afternoon after someone reported seeing him at his home.
“He was seen at his house briefly gathering some clothes,” St. George Police Sgt. Spencer Holmes said. “Just kind of came in, gathered some clothes and left.”
An officer pulled Palmer over in a traffic stop on Bluff Street in St. George Sunday afternoon.
“He left (his) residence because we were coming around the corner,” Holmes said. “He was speeding down Bluff.”
When Palmer was pulled over, Holmes said, he had the business card of a detective investigating his disappearance on the seat of the vehicle.
Palmer told officers he was scared they were going to arrest him.
“He said he was paranoid that the police were looking for him,” Holmes said.
“He was polite and decent with us and knew we were looking for him,” he went on to say.
The gist of the matter is Palmer has been on a substance abuse binge, Holmes said, and he started coming to and realized he’d been gone a while.
“He didn’t say where he was for the last two weeks; wouldn’t get into much of it,” Holmes said.
Palmer has been removed from the St. George Police Department’s missing persons list, and the investigation into his disappearance has been closed.
Palmer’s little boy, John, was left with his half-siblings and their father when Palmer disappeared and remained with them during the two weeks Greg Palmer was gone. They’d had no word from Greg Palmer and didn’t know where he was or what had happened to him.
Due to Greg Palmer’s disappearance and alleged substance abuse, the matter of his son’s welfare is under investigation.
“We have not determined any law violations,” Holmes said. “We’ll investigate the Child and Family Services end.”

Get that child into a safe situation until the father has solved his drug problems! Not a few weeks, either, but really until the father is a safe person to be caring for the child.
Definitely agree, they should be checking into the child’s safety. I don’t think he should have been taken home with his dad.

Oh yeah and somebody get the state in there and get that kid out of there. NOW.!
