St. George Police officers responded to a residence near Diagonal Street in St. George Wednesday after receiving an anonymous tip reporting the location of 35-year-old Justin Leroy Hustead.

Police spoke with the owner of the residence and asked him if Hustead was there, St. George Police Officer Christian Burkeley wrote in a probable cause statement written in support of the arrest.

The owner told officers the man was there and led them down to the basement, the statement said.

“I let Justin know that he was not free to leave,” the statement said, “and that he had a $5,760 warrant for his arrest.”

Burkeley asked Hustead to stand up, “and he dropped his pants and shoes,” according to the statement.

Hustead was placed under arrest.

Burkeley then searched the shorts and shoes dropped by Hustead. He found a green leafy substance, suspected to be marijuana, and pills that were not in a prescription bottle, Burkeley said in the statement. One pill was identified as amphetamine/dextroamphetamine, the statement said, and the other pills were identified as oxycodone. Drug paraphernalia was also found in the shorts.

Hustead was transported to the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility and was booked on charges of two third-degree felonies for possession of amphetamine and oxycodone and two class B misdemeanors for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Hustead also had two outstanding warrants, one from 5th District Court and another issued by Washington City.

Bail was scheduled at $10,000; Hustead remains in custody as this report is published and has a court appearance set for Monday.

Hustead was also arrested in February 2015 after being found slumped over the steering wheel of his car outside the Summit Athletic Club.

At that time, he was arrested and charged with four third-degree felonies for driving under the influence and for possession of heroin, methamphetamine, hydrocodone and lorazepam; and two class B misdemeanors for possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of an alcohol-restricted driver’s license.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
