Parade celebrates pioneers then, now

ST. GEORGE — Community members young and old lined the streets of Washington City Friday morning to celebrate Utah’s pioneer heritage with a colorful parade featuring glimpses of the past, vehicles of the present and the children of our future.

Both patriotic and pioneer pride were on full display as covered wagon and handcart replicas rolled past the red, white and blue flags that were posted along Telegraph Street.

The parade featured a mix of community and commercial entries with primary children and missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints mixed with a marching band and several business entities. Even “Beauty and the Beast” from Tuacahn’s Broadway Experience made an appearance.

By far, the most popular part of the morning was the candy and goodies thrown from various parade entrants; children could be seen with bags in hand, waiting and cheering for a tasty treat to be thrown near their feet.

The St. George News team was there and captured the action from along the parade route.

    Can only imagine what’s on the mind of that poor little pony pulling a wagon load of kids and one hefty old dude.
