LITTLEFIELD, Ariz. — Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an intoxicated man for felony assault on a law enforcement officer Saturday after the man got scrappy with deputies in Littlefield, Arizona.
At about 8:30 a.m., MCSO deputies responded to an area known as “Little Jamaica,” which is bridge No. 1 underneath Interstate 15 in Littlefield. A woman had called 911, reporting that a man was lying on the ground and “may be on drugs due to his behavior,” according to an MCSO press release. The woman further stated that the man had threatened to kill her.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they saw a man, later identified as Lawrence Scott Jones, 44, of Littlefield, lying on a sandbar near a freeway pillar and approached him.
“Jones was extremely uncooperative,” the press release said. “Deputies observed Jones was heavily intoxicated and he refused to answer any questions.”
Deputies called in responders from the Beaver Dam Fire Department to evaluate Jones, who continued to be uncooperative, according to the press release.
Deputies placed Jones in handcuffs.
The press release said:
While Jones was being handcuffed, he raised his fist to the deputy and said “I’m going to bash your face in”. The deputy further restrained Jones.
Jones, who declined medical attention, threatened to kill the paramedics while he was being evaluated, according to the press release.
Jones was transported and booked into the Mesquite Detention Center in Mesquite, Nevada, on felony charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Aggravated assault? As a normal citizen can we have aggravated assault charges on some drunk says I’m gonna kill you…..pleeeze, hes a drunk idiot but he didn’t have a gun the cops did…was he violent???…I’m just a little confused about the aggravated assault charge, can someone clear that up for me???
Yeah that’s one way of getting your picture in the newspaper
Okay, now I’m curious. Why is that spot called Little Jamaica?
“Little Jamaica” — what?
As a part-time resident of the area, I’ve NEVER heard that phrase. What’s the origin?
Re Little Jamaica: “There are more things in heaven and earth and this little corner of the planet than are dreamt of in your wildest dreams…”
Re aggravated assault: Threatening to kill people counts. It doesn’t take a gun to do it, and a drunk idiot can be more powerful than you might imagine. He had already threatened a woman.
the cops and courts can charge you with whatever they want. And they’ll make sure you’re convicted whether innocent or not.
“Little Jamaica” is a filthy spot under the overpass that consists of bags of cement (or something else) stacked up in a semicircle fashion catching water that trickles down the hill. People go there to “party” drink, do drugs and lord knows what else. People pee in it not to mention other tacky behavior. Careful, you may get stuck by a dirty needle! It’s been there for years. I went there in 1992, took one look and hiked back up the hill. I’ve never been to Jamaica but I certainly wouldn’t want to go there if it’s anything like that! Yikes!
There’s a place called little Mormon. I’m sure
