Pioneer Day firework restrictions 2015

SOUTHERN UTAH  As Pioneer Day approaches, with more celebrating, more care needs to be taken when using fireworks, especially in drier areas.

It is illegal to light fireworks on state and federal land throughout Utah, including national parks, state parks, Bureau of Land Management administered land, National Forest Service administered land and Bureau of Indian Affairs administered land. And, anyone who uses unauthorized fireworks may be charged with a class B misdemeanor, according to Utah State Legislature.

On the days fireworks are legal, they may be set off from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., except on July  24, when they can be set off until midnight.

Each municipality has its own restrictions on fireworks see the guide below for information on where fireworks can be lit in Southern Utah during the holidays: 

Beaver

  • There are no restrictions at this time

Cedar City

  • The city has no banned areas, but the Cedar City Fire Department asks that fireworks be lit in the designated areas: Cedar City High School, Canyon View High School and the Aquatics Center. Fireworks can be lit three days before and after the holiday

Enoch

  • An update from the city says that there are no banned areas for fireworks. However, the fire department asks that they be lit in the parking lot at the Enoch City Offices

Enterprise

  • There are no firework restrictions, but anyone using fireworks is requested to use common sense

Hurricane

  • Fireworks are allowed from July 21-27. Class C common state fireworks may be discharged within the Hurricane City limits in the following locations only: Spilsbury Park, American Legion ball field and Three Falls Park

Ivins

  • Fireworks are prohibited in the following areas:
    • West of 400 West
    • Highway 91 corridor
    • Dry washes and drainages
    • River and stream corridors
    • Hillside, plateaus and mesa tops
    • Undeveloped open space or natural terrain

Kanab

  • The Kanab City Fire Chief and the Kanab City Council prohibit the discharge of fireworks in Kanab City in the following areas:
    • All areas south of Kanab Creek Drive
    • All areas west of 300 West
    • All areas east of 600 East (east of Cemetery)
    • These areas include the Kanab Creek Ranchos, Cedar Heights and La Estancia sub divisions

LaVerkin

  • Fireworks may be lit at WanLass Park and Vintage Park and in all public streets in the city limits as long as they are 100 feet away from any hillside surrounding the city

New Harmony

  • There are no fireworks allowed for the holiday

Panguitch

  • There are no firework restrictions

Parowan

  • Fireworks are allowed only on July 24. They must be lit at Lions Park

Santa Clara

Springdale

  • Under a larger Burn Policy, all fireworks are restricted this year

St. George

  • View an interactive map here
  • No fireworks of any kind are to be used within 250 feet of the following areas:
    • Dry washes and drainages
    • River and stream corridors
    • Hillsides, plateaus and mesa tops
    • Undeveloped open space or natural terrain

Toquerville

  • All fireworks must be shot from City Center Park, 250 W. Center Street

Virgin

  • Fireworks may be lit in all public streets in the city limits as long as they are 100 feet away from any hillside surrounding the city

Washington City

  • Due to weather there will be restrictions on fireworks this year
  • Refer to map for areas within the city limits that are restricted from fireworks. If your home is next to the restricted area be sure to keep all fireworks away from open spaces that are fuel loaded and dry
