Muddy tires lead to accident on Foremaster Ridge

ST. GEORGE — Muddy tires caused a man to lose control and crash his truck into an embankment on Foremaster Drive in St. George Saturday evening.

Just before 6 p.m., a white Ford F150 was heading west on Foremaster Drive when the driver lost control of his truck, St. George Police Lt. Joseph Hartman said. The truck ran up onto the side of an embankment, which caused the airbags to deploy.

The crash resulted from mud on the truck’s tires, which caused the tires to lose traction on the road, Hartman said.

While Hartman said he didn’t know how the mud got on the tires, he guessed the man might have been “mudding” at a popular place at the bottom of Foremaster Ridge.

The man had three passengers in the truck with him, all children between the ages of 2 and 4. The kids were uninjured in the crash, and it seems they were all properly restrained, Hartman said.

The driver sustained airbag burns from the velocity at which the airbags deployed, Hartman said, but he reported no other injuries and refused ambulance transport to the hospital.

The driver was cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.

The truck had to be towed from the scene, Hartman said, but there was no damage to any other property.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
