ST. GEORGE – Lightning strikes and flooding have been reported across Southern Utah as the areal storm promised by the National Weather Service invaded the region with a fury.
In Iron County, Color country Interagency Fire Management, based in Cedar City, launched air attack in response to reports of lightning strikes setting trees on fire Saturday afternoon, Color Country Manager Bill Roach said.
One tree was struck on state Route 130 near mile marker 28, Roach said, one tree was lit by fire in the Hurricane Cliffs, another tree in Black’s Canyon in Zion National Park and yet another tree was struck in Wire Mesa.
“All are tenth of an acre, single tree nuisance fires,” Roach said. “All the fires are either contained or controlled.”
