ST. GEORGE — Utah resident Mike Parsons is appearing on The Weather Channel Sunday at 7 p.m. during a new episode of “Fat Guys in the Woods.”

Parsons, of West Jordan, said he is big fan of all kinds of survival shows. After seeing the first episode of “Fat Guys in the Woods” he went online, searched for the producer and sent an email. He received a reply saying if they decided to do a second season, they’d be interested in having him on the show.

A few months went by and Parsons received a new email with an application.
“It snowballed from there,” Parsons said. “They liked that I was a radio DJ and didn’t move around a lot so I had put on a few pounds”
In the episode Creek Stewart, host and survival expert, along with Parsons, Jim Walton and D.J. Lopez, put a giant knife arsenal to the test in Florida’s Dead Lakes State Recreation Area.

They used their blades to construct a swamp nest tree house, built a fire thong (a fire-by-friction fire start method) and hacked into some interesting wild edibles. Tensions flared when cracking open a turtle was the only option for food.

“I loved it, but it wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be,” Parsons said. “It was more fun. By the time we got to day six, I wasn’t sure I wanted to leave.”
He said it was a lot of pressure, having to find food and water, but a different kind of pressure than every day life.
“(It was) challenging,” Parsons said, “but an escape.”

About the show

In every episode of “Fat Guys in the Woods,” Stewart brings three people back to the woods to survive for a week with only one objective: to teach them the skills that make a man, a man.

Together they will learn the art and science of outdoor survival while battling the threats of Mother Nature.

I can’t understand how these 3 idiots managed to be cast on this show? 3 washed up radio disc jockeys, who lived narcissistic lives of alcoholism, womanizing and embezzlement. I didn’t watch this episode because I may have gotten sick. Just knowing Jim used to come to work drunk, Dj used to have sex with countless women while at the station and Mike would gamble the night away and drive home drunk afterwards. This episode should’ve been called: 3 …* in the woods… Your casting department should do a better job finding better examples of American Fat guys. By the way, Dj Lopez gave me an std…
    Ed. ellipsis: …*

You knew DJ was sleeping with “countless women” at work but yet you went ahead and had sex with him (hence the STD)… who is the idiot? Well that would be you. STOP SLEEPING AROUND! Live up to your potential.
