1 sent to hospital after rollover on I-15

CEDAR CITY — A 33-year-old woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday night after a blown tire caused her SUV to roll on Interstate 15, just south of Cedar City.

A passerby reported the accident just before 8 p.m., and Utah Highway Patrol responded to mile marker 47 on the southbound lanes of I-15.

The woman reported that she was traveling southbound when a tire on her gray Chevy Tahoe blew out, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Nathan Clark said.

The woman lost control of the SUV, swerving into the median, and the SUV rolled two to three times before coming to a stop right-side up, facing southbound, Clark said.

The woman crawled out of the car through the driver’s side window and sat on the side of the road to wait for help.

She was transported to Valley View Medical Center by the Iron County Ambulance service, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said, but did not seem to have major injuries, as she was released from the hospital later Tuesday night.

It appeared the woman had been wearing her seat belt, Clark said, and there were no other passengers in the vehicle.

UHP is not sure what caused the tire blowout, Clark said.

The SUV was inoperative and was towed from the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
