UPDATE: Amber Alert CANCELED: 12-year-old girl believed to be abducted by stepbrother

UPDATE:  The Department of Arizona Transportation has confirmed the Amber Alert described in this report was canceled around 3:45 p.m. The gold Subaru was located near Page, Arizona Monday afternoon. Troopers initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle and detained both of the occupants inside.

Cassidy Hayes is reportedly safe and will be released to her family. Her stepbrother and alleged suspect, Michael Malloch Jr., has been taken into police custody.

ST. GEORGE – An Amber Alert has been issued out of Cathedral City, California, to Southern Utah residents Monday afternoon, for a 2002 gold Subaru Legacy with California license plate number 7HYS582.

The Amber Alert was issued for 12-year-old Cassidy Hayes after she and her 22-year-old stepbrother, Michael Malloch Jr., reportedly left Cathedral City, near Palm Springs, under suspicious circumstances around 6 a.m. Sunday, according to a report by Fox 10 Phoenix.

“Authorities say Malloch wrote a suicidal letter saying he cannot live without ‘her,’” according to the report.

The two were later spotted in Buckeye, Arizona, 12 News Arizona reports, and were last seen at a Shell gas station in Munds Park, Arizona, around 9:15 a.m. Monday.

“Police believe they may be headed to Massachusetts,” according to 12 News.
