ST. GEORGE — A woman was cited for following too closely Tuesday after a three-vehicle accident on Dixie Downs Road in St. George during which a child was not wearing a seat belt.
The collision happened amid some traffic congestion at the entrance to the Maverik parking lot on Dixie Downs Road.
Traffic was backed up due to a vehicle trying to pull into the parking lot, which was blocked by another vehicle leaving from the same entrance, St. George Police Officer Tyrell Bangerter said.
A silver Saturn Vue and a white Toyota Camry were stopped behind traffic heading northbound on Dixie Drive when a blue Honda Pilot came through the light across Sunset Boulevard and rear-ended the Camry, pushing it into the back of the Vue.
The only passengers in any of the vehicles were two children riding in the Pilot, Bangerter said. One of the children was not wearing a seat belt.
Everyone else involved seemed to be buckled up, he said.
Some of the cars’ occupants complained of neck and stomach pain, Bangerter said, but Gold Cross responders checked out the individuals and did not find any injuries, so no one was transported to the hospital.
The accident did not cause any more traffic backup, as the drivers quickly moved their vehicles into the Maverik parking lot to wait for police and other emergency responders, Bangerter said.
Most of the vehicle damage was contained to the front of the Pilot and back of the Camry, and the drivers were able to drive all three vehicles away from the scene.
The driver of the Pilot was cited for following too closely.
St. George Police, St. George Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the accident.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
