ST. GEORGE — A man and two women were in for a surprise Friday night when they allegedly showed up in St. George to engage in prostitution but met with undercover detectives and were arrested instead.
St. George Police detectives concluded an ongoing investigation into women who were allegedly offering prostitution services in the St. George area, according to probable cause statements written by St. George Police detectives in support of the arrests.
Negotiations were made online between undercover investigators and the women, the statement said, involving the performance of sexual acts in exchange for money, and a meeting place was arranged.
The first arrest occurred at 11 p.m. Friday when 26-year-old Shenelle Brown, of Fresno, California, allegedly arrived to engage in prostitution and was taken into police custody instead.
The second, separate incident occurred just before midnight, when a woman, identified as 26-year-old La’Shay Marie Brewer, of Las Vegas — who had engaged in two different conversations with two different detectives to arrange prostitution — arrived at the meeting place.
Brewer was driven to the detectives’ location by a man identified as 26-year-old Charles Gregory Broome Jr., also of Las Vegas.
“(Broome) drove the female to our location knowing that she was engaging in sexual acts for money,” the statement of probable cause said. “(Broome) transported a person into or within this state with a purpose to promote that person’s engaging in prostitution.”
Both Brewer and Broome were also arrested.
The trio was booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.
Because both Brewer’s and Brown’s criminal histories revealed at least one prior conviction for prostitution, their charges were enhanced.
Brewer was charged with two class A misdemeanors for sexual solicitation. She was released from custody on $3,900 bond. Her court arraignment for the charges is scheduled for June 15.
Broome was charged with a third-degree felony for exploiting a prostitute. He was released from custody on $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on June 12.
Brown was charged with a class A misdemeanor for sexual solicitation.
She entered a plea of no contest and was arraigned in court Monday after she waived her right to counsel and time for sentencing.
Fifth District Judge Eric A. Ludlow sentenced Brown to 365 days in jail but suspended all 365 days. Ludlow ordered Brown pay a fine of $2,500 during sentencing, but suspended $2,000 of the fine. Brown was also sentenced to 24 months of supervised probation.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

Hey Native Born, you previously asserted in comments on the too many laws article , “Even if you present the perfect case the Judge’s job is to be sure the prosecutor wins his case. You have almost no chance”. Ver batum quote from my favorite legal eagle. In this case the “Lady” pled no contest and was sentenced to 365 days in jail, $2500 fine. She served zero time in jail and only had to pay $500 fine and probation. Good thing she didn’t speed or litter in Arizona, I’m told by experts that it is a felony to do that, 6th degree felony no less.
