ST. GEORGE — Dave’s Bernina, a family owned and operated business for 55 years, now in St. George, takes a personal approach to the way they do business.
“We treat the customers how we’d want to be treated,” current owner Rod Borget said. “We’re not like the typical big box store — we’re more of a personal, get-to-know-you, make friends, and take-care-of-you type business.”

Dave’s Bernina was founded in 1960 in Provo by Rod Borget’s father, Dave Borget. Opening a new store in St. George six years ago, Rod Borget and his brother Richard Borget are aiming to become the go-to spot for all sewing, fabric and machine needs.
Rod Borget believes, he said, there may be a misconception surrounding Bernina machines when it comes to cost.
“People think that they can’t afford Bernina,” he said, “when in reality, there’s a machine for most every budget.”
Where the real magic happens, Rod Borget said, is behind the scenes.
“We really and truthfully care about these customers,” he said. “When it comes to repairs, or classes, we are truly concerned about the customers.”
Customers, of course, are the best evidence of that special magic. Their creativity finds expression through needle and thread, with texture and fabric, through sewing, embroidery and quilting. These are the people who produce, you might say, the things that legacies – like the Borget family business – are made of: tender, loving care.
