Unidentified male body found in advanced stages of decomposition

IRON COUNTY – A body was found in Iron County Friday, and authorities are investigating to determine the exact cause of death while working to positively identify the deceased person.

At about 4:30 p.m., the Iron County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a location just south of Summit on a report of a body found, the Sheriff’s Office said in a press statement issued Thursday.

When deputies arrived on scene, they were led to a dead body that was in the advanced stages of decomposition, the statement said. At that time, Iron County Sheriff’s detectives were dispatched to the scene to conduct further investigation.

The body was sent to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.

As this report is published, the male body has not been positively identified and the exact cause of death is still pending, the statement said.

“The Iron County Sheriff’s Office is currently working with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on the positive identity of the victim and possible reasons why this subject may have ended up in Iron County,” the Sheriff’s Office said in the statement.

This is a developing story. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
